The Community
This project has roots that go back over 50 years. In the 1970s, Eddie Moy’s father, Hamm Hong Moy, dreamed of building a hotel at this site. As a decorated veteran and proud Chinese American, his goal was to create a place that would serve the community while also showcasing its culture. That vision lives on through Eddie, and the Moy Family, who have continued to invest in Chinatown and support its people through business, philanthropy, and long-standing partnerships.
The Moy Family has supported local Chinese-owned businesses over the years and played a key role in helping them survive challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. As this project was being designed, Eddie and the developers took great care in ensuring that no tenants would be displaced for this project. In fact, many of the business owners, some of whom are family friends, chose to retire after decades of service. The team has worked closely with all stakeholders to ensure the project honors those who came before and benefits those who are here now.
Community engagement has been at the heart of this effort from the beginning. Over the past three years, the development team has met with residents, faith leaders, non-profits, ANC commissioners, and groups such as the Save Chinatown Solidarity Network. These conversations have helped shape a project that is deeply respectful of Chinatown’s heritage and encourages community input and feedback.
This project will help preserve Chinatown’s identity while positioning it for the future. With rising costs and shifts in foot traffic in downtown DC, revitalizing the neighborhood with intentional, culturally relevant development is essential. The Chinatown Marriott Tribute Hotel is one way to ensure that the community’s legacy remains strong for future generations.
Our Commitment
We are committed to honoring Chinatown’s history while helping to build its future. Our hotel will be a space where culture, community, and commerce thrive together. With deep roots in this neighborhood, our team is focused on respectful development, transparent engagement, and long-term support. This is more than a building-it’s a promise to preserve what makes Chinatown special.
